After School at the Keene Valley Library | 3:15 - 5pm
Instructors: Barbara Tam and Emma Silverstein
Come try your hand making magic happen with the art of weaving. We will be creating circle Moon and Planet weavings on hoop looms with yarns and beads. On a cardboard loom, you can craft L’il Monsters or an Anything Goes wall hanging using found and recycled materials. Or, you can really challenge yourself and make a small purse, bookbag, or a useful and individual cellphone pocket. Color patterns and ways to create texture into your weaving using tying, wrapping, knotting, and braiding will be demonstrated. You will learn a variety of weaving techniques so you can continue your ideas and future projects at home. No experience in weaving is necessary, just bring your interest and enthusiasm.

Barbara Tam has taught visual arts to students from kindergarten through high school in both private and public schools for more than 35 years. She loves being with young artists dreaming big about their creative ideas and working to make those ideas real. The natural world and its mysteries and intrigues is the focus of Barbara’s own explorative work, primarily in clay, paper, and fiber.
Emma Silverstein was raised in Connecticut and received her BFA in ceramics from Syracuse University. She has studied in India and China, worked as a beekeeper, and taught dance, ceramics and weaving. Emma has been awarded a Harvest Plate Residency at Craigardan.
