Ceramic Arts Residency
The Ceramic Arts Residency at Craigardan is an opportunity for ceramic artists and potters to be fully immersed in a supportive environment conducive to making. We invite applications from artists and potters who can work independently without instruction, and we encourage the cross-pollination of ideas across disciplines. There are often only 1 or 2 ceramic artists in-residence at any time. Applicants to this residency seek uninterrupted time to create new work or to further develop their process amid the beauty of the Adirondack Mountains. The primary aim of the residency is to foster and expand an individual’s creative and intellectual growth with clay in a supportive, wildly creative, interdisciplinary community. Artists are encouraged to collaborate with the staff and fellow residents, explore the surrounding Adirondack region, and develop mutually beneficial ties to the community.
While we are in the process of constructing our new 320 acre mountainside campus, ceramic arts residents have access to equipped studios in our beautiful summer barn overlooking the farm. We currently offer electric and wood/salt kilns, electric wheels and kick-wheels, equipment and space for hand-building and sculpture, and fully-stocked raw materials for glaze and clay body development. Until the new studio facilities are complete on-campus, we can only support clay residencies May through early September.
