Song of Myself

Thursday, August 17th.  10am - 12pm

Instructors:  The Space We Make collaborators

Loafe with me on the grass, loose the stop from your throat,
Not words, not music or rhyme I want, not custom or lecture,
     not even the best,
Only the lull I like, the hum of your valved voice.

             Walt Whitman, “Song of Myself”

In a place-based writing and sound workshop, participants will explore what it might mean to find identity within the external (landscape), as well as how to find landscape (written and sonic) within themselves. Working in the field and drawing inspiration from “Song of Myself” as a work of lyric identity mapping and engagement with landscape, both inner and outer, we will unhinge our valved voices both in the air and on the page through contemplative practice, mapping, group and individual creative exercises. The workshop will close with the sharing of new writings and sound “events.”

Workshop Fee - $20 (all proceeds go toward the Paul Z. Nowicki Master Artists Fellowship)
