Join us for a Benefit Dinner and Support Regional Food + Farm Justice!
THIS EVENT IS SOLD-OUT!
Join John Brown Lives! and Craigardan as we explore issues of food justice with Leah Penniman, founding co-director of Soul Fire Farm and author of Farming While Black: Soul Fire Farm’s Practical Guide to Liberation on the Land.
This event will be held at the historic John Brown Farm in Lake Placid, NY. Guests are invited to visit the farm and concurrent Dreaming of Timbuctoo exhibition, and engage in rich conversation while enjoying a delicious farm-to-table meal prepared by Craigardan’s chef, Luke Ayres.
Leah Penniman has over 20 years of experience as a soil steward and food sovereignty activist, having worked at the Food Project, Farm School, Many Hands Organic Farm, Youth Grow and with farmers internationally in Ghana, Haiti, and Mexico. Li co-founded Soul Fire Farm in 2011 with the mission to reclaim our inherent right to belong to the earth and have agency in the food system as Black and Brown people. Ya’s areas of leadership at Soul Fire include farmer training, international solidarity, food justice organizing, writing, speaking, “making it rain,” and anything that involves heavy lifting, sweat, and soil.
This event is sponsored, in part, by the Food Justice Working Group. Craigardan is proud to be a founding member of the group, which was formed to bring together diverse stakeholders who seek to create a roadmap for inclusivity, accessibility, nutrition, and justice in the North Country local food system.
Tickets $120 per person // including dinner + talk plus commemorative glass. Please email info@craigardan.org or mreding@johnbrownlives.org for more information. All proceeds go toward John Brown Lives! Craigardan, and regional food justice initiatives.
