A harvest celebration of the food, the farm, and the plate
On Saturday, September 7th, guests will gather for a two-part culinary and artistic celebration.
Join us for a community cocktail-hour, followed by four courses of exceptional farm food, outstanding art and fabulous community.
The evening also includes a gallery exhibition featuring artist-in-residence Hedy Yang, a silent auction of art and fine craft, and a very special unveiling of Craigardan’s future plans. The event will be held at our new home, read more HERE.
Post-feast, guests will take home the handmade tableware crafted by this year's Harvest Plate Artist-in-Residence, Kathy Irwin.

The hand-crafted, wood and soda-fired tableware is custom-made for this event's menu by artist Kathy Irwin in collaboration with the chef. Kathy’s studio residency at Craigardan culminates in the third annual Dinner in the Field, with each guest receiving one of her beautiful table settings.
The evening's menu features creatively prepared food by chef Luke Ayres. All ingredients are fresh, seasonal, organically grown, pasture raised and sourced locally for this event. It is a delicious collaboration between Craigardan and other local farms and artisan makers.
“Inspired by Kathy’s passion for travel and her love of Indian cuisine, we’re elevating simple Adirondack ingredients with huge flavors and colors. The region’s late season bounty of toothsome greens and hearty vegetables pair well with flavors of earthy coriander and bright mustard seeds to bring together a meal that is both summery and warming at the same time.” Chef Ayres
All proceeds will go toward Craigardan's educational programming in the arts, agriculture, and culinary arts.
This year's event will honor Janelle Schwartz, PhD. Janelle is a Craigardan board member, active community member and the founder of Hamilton College’s Adirondack Program. We acknowledge and thank the Adirondack Program for its numerous contributions to our region. It is a place-based, semester-long immersion program that combines the interdisciplinary study of local environmental issues and their global implications with research-based fieldwork, internships, and cooperative living. Janelle serves as its director, teaching and working to build a vibrant and cooperative living-learning community between students and faculty, the High Peaks region and the Adirondacks at large. Thanks to Janelle’s vision and implementation, the Adirondack Program has become the model for successful experiential, higher education programming in the Park. It brings a diverse, and active population of young and engaged thinkers and contributors to our region’s economic, social, cultural, and environmental ecosystem. In under five years, Janelle and her students and colleagues have become woven into the yearly fabric of our organizations, businesses and communities.
Kathy Irwin is from Oswego, NY and graduated with a BFA in Painting from The State University of New York at Potsdam. Along with painting, she took ceramic courses at the university level as well as classes and workshops at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, MN and in Wisconsin. Finding connections between painting and ceramics has allowed for interesting combinations of the two mediums. Moving to the Mid-West opened her eyes to the potters living and working in the area and the sense of community around ceramics. This fascination was followed by exploration and a passion for making pots designed and used for everyday occasions. Kathy feels that taking a painterly approach to ceramics while honing craftsmanship in ceramics is the lense through which she sees her work progressing.
As well as being a Ceramic Resident at Craigardan Kathy has been granted residences for painting at the Horned Dorset Colony in Leonardsville, NY and at STARWorks Ceramic Residency in Star, North Carolina. Kathy currently lives in a small town in Northern Wisconsin on the South Shore of Lake Superior. She is passionate about making art that can create connections between people, food, and place.
“Being in nature elicits a clear and calm head space. The essence of freedom and the slowness of nature are what I hope to bring into the studio. Creating the plates for the Harvest Dinner was a unique adventure. Living on a mountain in the Adirondacks provided endless inspiration. Winter hikes allowed for quiet observation and meditation on the contrasting tones, and visual textures presented by the wild landscape. The goal was to create plates that are exciting and welcoming on their own, inspired by the environment, and enhance the meal served on them.”
